Overview
The daily closing price is the last recorded BTC/USD trade price at the end of each UTC day. It is the most widely referenced price point and the basis for most technical analysis and on-chain metrics.
Interpretation
The close is considered the most important price of the day as it reflects the final consensus between buyers and sellers. Most moving averages, RSI, MACD, and other technical indicators use closing prices. A close above resistance or below support is generally more significant than an intraday break.
Use Cases
- Technical analysis: Foundation for moving averages, Bollinger Bands, RSI, and most indicators
- Performance measurement: Daily, weekly, and monthly returns are calculated from close to close
- Signal generation: Close above/below key levels triggers trading signals
- On-chain correlation: Most on-chain metrics (MVRV, NUPL, SOPR) are computed using the daily close
