Overview
The daily opening price is the first recorded BTC/USD trade price at the start of each UTC day. It represents the market's initial price discovery after the daily candle reset.
Interpretation
The opening price sets the baseline for each trading day. When compared to the close, it reveals daily sentiment: close > open indicates bullish pressure, close < open indicates bearish pressure. The gap between consecutive close and next open can reveal overnight volatility or news impact.
Use Cases
- Candlestick charting: Essential component of OHLC/candlestick charts alongside high, low, and close
- Gap analysis: Comparing previous close to current open identifies overnight gaps
- Intraday range: Open relative to high/low shows where in the daily range trading began
- Technical indicators: Many indicators (Pivot Points, Opening Range Breakout) use the open as a reference level
