Overview

ETF Net Flow USD (Per Fund) is the dollar value of shares created minus shares redeemed in one US spot Bitcoin ETF on a trading day. It shows how much investor money entered or left a specific fund, and is the per-fund breakdown of US Spot ETF Daily Net Flow (USD).

Formula

Flowf,t=(Sf,t−Sf,t−1)×NAVf,t\text{Flow}_{f,t} = (S_{f,t} - S_{f,t-1}) \times \text{NAV}_{f,t}

Sf,tS_{f,t} = shares outstanding after trading day tt, NAVf,t\text{NAV}_{f,t} = the fund's NAV per share of day tt. Available for US spot funds only (non-US funds report NAV in local currency); empty on non-trading days and, for funds whose issuer publishes a day later, on the newest day until it is published.

Difference from the BTC flow

ETF Net Flow BTC (Per Fund) is the change in the fund's BTC. For GBTC, Grayscale Mini and BTCW it also contains the sponsor fee paid in BTC; the USD flow does not.

Interpretation

  • Positive values (green bars): net creations — new investor money entered the fund that day.
  • Negative values (red bars): net redemptions — investors withdrew money and the fund released BTC.
  • Zero values: no creations or redemptions; common for smaller funds that trade in whole creation baskets.
  • One fund in, another out on the same day: rotation between issuers (for example on fee changes) rather than a change in overall demand.

Use Cases

  • Issuer market share: see which funds are winning or losing assets day by day.
  • Attribution of aggregate flows: identify the funds behind a large inflow or outflow day.
  • Fee and product events: measure the reaction to fee cuts, launches or conversions of a specific fund.
  • Clean investor flow: unlike the BTC flow, not distorted by sponsor fees paid in BTC.
